acrylic nails fills up the nails in a way that's very forgiving

Stainless Steel or Steel-Milled nails are more durable and provide an easier cut

I used a 1/12 inch drill bit to cut a hole in one of the sides of these nails. The size of these nails depends on your thickness.

Hinge Cuts

These are the cut holes for the nail. They are the only cuts you can make to keep them steady. You can even cut a hole into a piece of glass just to take a look at the cut after you get a good look

The only thing that you can do to keep the C cuts stable is to keep cutting the nails long enough to hold them to the cutting surface (see the above video for a video of this).

If you get a nice solid, smooth and strong surface, you are good to go.

If you get a more "soft" surface, then it's the shape that will improve, if not you'll end up not sharp enough or too solid.

Use the Nail Pliers if you would like those kinds of tools for the job. Don't forget the screw driver and the nail cutters.

Use 1" or 2" nails as much as possible
